When a customer swaps one subscription product for another, the "Discount Carry Forward" setting in the Appstle Subscriptions app determines how discounts should be applied to the new (destination) product. This setting plays a key role in ensuring consistency in pricing or enabling new pricing logic based on your business needs.
Here’s a breakdown of the four options available:
1. No Carry Forward
What it does: The discount from the original (source) product is not carried over to the new (destination) product.
Example:
If the original product has a 50% discount, and the new product has a 20% discount or no discount at all, no discount will be applied to the new product.
The result: 0% discount on the swapped product, regardless of either product’s discount setup.
2. Existing Selling Plan
What it does: The discount from the original product is carried over and applied to the new product.
Example:
If the original product had a 50% discount, the new product will also receive the same 50% discount, even if its own selling plan has a different discount.
The result: The source product’s discount is retained after the swap.
3. Product Selling Plan
What it does: The discount set on the new product’s own selling plan is applied.
Example:
If the new product’s selling plan specifies a 20% discount, that is the discount that will apply—regardless of what discount the original product had.
4. Prioritize Product Selling Plan
What it does: Gives priority to the new product’s discount if it exists. If the new product doesn’t have a discount, then it applies the original product’s discount.
Example:
If the new product has a 20% discount and the original had 0%, the new product’s 20% discount is used.
If the new product has no discount, the system will then fall back to the original product’s discount, if any.
