Overview
Sometimes, merchants notice that a billing attempt is skipped after a subscription billing trigger. This article explains why this happens and how it can be resolved.
This behavior is expected in certain scenarios and is primarily related to security mechanisms, not an issue with Appstle.
Why Does a Billing Attempt Get Skipped?
Here’s what happens behind the scenes:
On the scheduled billing date, Appstle automatically triggers the billing attempt for the subscription.
The system allows only one billing attempt per day for security reasons.
If within the same 24-hour window, the store owner manually places an order, or another billing attempt is triggered,
the system blocks the second attempt and skips it automatically.
In such cases, the billing attempt does not fail due to an error in Appstle—it is intentionally skipped by the system.
What Will You See in the Activity Log?
When this happens, the subscription activity log may show a message similar to:
“Found more than one billing attempt for the same day.”
This message confirms that the system prevented a duplicate billing attempt on the same day.
Why Enforce This Rule?
Prevent duplicate or accidental charges
Protect customers from multiple charges in a short time
Within a 24-hour window, multiple orders for the same subscription generally do not make logical sense, which is why the system blocks them by default.
Is This a Store-Specific Setting?
Yes. The system has a setting related to duplicate checkouts, but:
It is not disabled by default on all stores
The system keeps it enabled for security reasons
As a result, some stores may experience skipped billing attempts, while others may not.
