Use blackout dates for days when you can't deliver orders, such as holidays, a stocktake or a day without drivers. Customers see these dates greyed out in the calendar and can't choose them.
Each location has its own list of blackout dates, so you can close one location and keep another open.
Before you start
Check Enable delivery date picker in Settings → Local delivery → Checkout experience. Without it, customers don't see a calendar and blackout dates have no effect. This setting applies to all your locations.
Add blackout dates to one location
In the app, go to Locations and open the location.
In the Local delivery card, click Show settings.
In the Blackout dates card, click Select a date or a date range.
Click a date. To block several days in a row, click the first date, then the last date.
Click Add date. For a range, the button reads Add dates.
Repeat for any other dates.
Click Save.
A range is added as separate dates, so you can remove one day from it later. You can only pick today or a later date, and a date that is already on the list is greyed out in the calendar.
Remove blackout dates
In the Blackout dates card, check the box next to each date you want to remove. To select every date on the current page, check the box next to Showing at the top of the list.
Click Delete selected.
Click Save.
The list shows five dates per page. Use the arrows below the list to see more, or the All months and All years lists to narrow it down.
Add blackout dates to several locations at once
In the app, go to Locations.
Check the box next to each location you want to change.
Click Add blackout dates.
Under Apply to, keep Local Delivery checked. Uncheck Store Pickup if pickup stays open on these dates.
Under When adding these dates, choose Append to each location's existing blackout dates or Replace each location's existing blackout dates.
In the calendar, click a date. To block several days in a row, click the first date, then the last date.
Click Add date. For a range, the button reads Add dates.
Repeat for any other dates.
Click Apply.
The dates are saved as soon as you click Apply, so you don't need to open each location. A message shows how many locations were updated. A location the app couldn't update stays selected so you can check it.
Append keeps each location's blackout dates and adds the new ones.
Replace deletes the blackout dates each selected location already has, in every list checked under Apply to, and keeps only the dates you added here. There's no undo.
What customers see
Wherever customers choose a delivery date, blackout dates are greyed out and can't be chosen. In this example, 26 November is a blackout date. Other dates follow your usual delivery settings.
Things to know
Blackout dates block whole days. To limit the hours on a day, change the location's Delivery slots instead.
They block exact dates, not weekdays. To close every Sunday, change Delivery availability instead.
A delivery date you offer can't also be blacked out. If the location uses Specific dates of the year for delivery availability, a date on that list can't be a blackout date. The card shows a Blackout date conflict message and leaves the date out, and the Add blackout dates window skips it without a message. To block it, remove it from the delivery dates first.
Local delivery and store pickup have separate lists. Blackout dates on the Local delivery card don't affect store pickup. In the Add blackout dates window, Apply to decides which lists get the dates. See Block pickup on specific dates.
FAQs
Can I block a date for all my locations?
Yes. On the Locations page, check the box next to Location at the top of the list to select every location on the page. If your locations run to more than one page, also click Select all and the number of locations. Then click Add blackout dates and follow the steps above.
Why didn't my date get added?
If the card shows a Blackout date conflict message, the date is one of the delivery dates you chose under Specific dates of the year. Remove it from the delivery dates, then add it again. If there's no message, pick the date again and click Add date before you click Save.
Why can customers still choose a date I blocked?
Open the location and check that the date is in the Blackout dates list under Local delivery. If it isn't, add it again and click Save. Dates under Store pickup don't block delivery. Also check that Enable delivery date picker is on in Settings → Local delivery → Checkout experience.
