You can give customers a discount when they choose store pickup, local delivery or shipping, for example 10% off for picking up their order. Each method has its own discount, and it applies to all your locations. Customers see the discount in the order summary at checkout.
You can use a discount code that you create in Shopify, or let the app create the discount for you.
Choose how to create the discount
You choose one option for each method. This table compares them.
Difference | Create in Shopify | Create in Appstle Pickup |
What you set up | A discount code in Shopify. | A name, a type and a value in the app. |
What you can control | Everything a Shopify code offers, such as eligible products, a minimum purchase, customer eligibility, usage limits and an end date. | A percentage or a fixed amount off for customers who choose the method. |
When it applies | When customers finish their choices for the method in the cart widget. | Pickup and local delivery: when customers finish their choices in the cart widget. Shipping: when they pick a shipping rate at checkout. |
If customers switch method | The code stays in their cart, even if the new method has no discount. | The discount follows the method they end up with. |
Use a Shopify discount code
In Shopify, go to Discounts and click Create discount. Create the code you want to offer, for example PICKUP10.
In the app, click Settings, then open Store pickup, Local delivery or Shipping.
Find the Discount code card. In Local delivery, click Checkout experience first to expand it.
Leave Create in Shopify selected.
Enter the code in Discount code, exactly as it appears in Shopify. You can enter one code per method.
Click Save.
When a customer picks the method and finishes their choices in the cart widget, the app adds your code to their cart. For store pickup, that means a location and, if you require them, a date and time. On Shopify Plus, the checkout widget does the same if you added it in Settings → Themes and checkout.
At checkout, the order summary shows the code and the amount it takes off. The code follows the rules you set in Shopify. If the cart doesn't qualify, for example because the code only covers other products, the customer gets no discount and sees no message.
Let the app create the discount
In the app, click Settings, then open Store pickup, Local delivery or Shipping.
Find the Discount code card. In Local delivery, click Checkout experience first to expand it.
Select Create in Appstle Pickup.
In Discount code, enter a name for the discount, for example "Pickup discount". Customers see it at checkout.
Under Discount Type, choose Percentage or Fixed.
Enter the Discount Percentage (0 to 100) or the Discount Amount.
Click Save.
The pickup and local delivery discounts apply as soon as a customer finishes their choices for the method in the cart widget, and take the amount off the order subtotal. The shipping discount applies when a customer picks a shipping rate at checkout, and takes the amount off that rate. The app reads which checkout options count as pickup, local delivery or shipping from your rates. See Set up pickup and delivery rates.
At checkout, the delivery option for every item has to match the method the customer chose in the cart. If it doesn't, Shopify stops the order and shows: "Your pickup or local delivery discount requires that delivery method for all items. Return to the cart to update your delivery choice, then try again." This keeps the pickup and local delivery discounts off orders you ship.
The app adds two things to your Shopify admin for these discounts: an automatic discount called Appstle Pickup Discounts in Discounts and, for pickup and local delivery, a checkout rule called Appstle Pickup & Delivery Discounts in Settings → Checkout. Both belong to the app, so leave them on.
Things to know
Each method has its own discount. Pickup, local delivery and shipping each have a Discount code card, so you can offer different discounts or none.
The discount covers every location. The cards are in Settings, not on a location, so you can't give one location a different discount.
Discounts created in the app follow Customer tag access. If you fill in Allow customers with these tags in Settings → Developers → Widget visibility, only logged-in customers with one of those tags get them. Logged-in customers with a tag from Exclude customers with these tags never do.
A Shopify code stays in the cart. The app adds the code but never removes it. If a customer chooses pickup and then switches to shipping, the pickup code is still in their cart. To give a discount only on orders that use the method, choose Create in Appstle Pickup.
Shopify controls a Shopify code. Eligibility, minimums, limits, end date and whether it combines with other discounts are all set in Shopify, not in the app.
Discounts created in the app combine with other discounts. The app sets them to combine with product, order and shipping discounts. Customers get both only if your other discount is also set to combine with order discounts (for pickup and local delivery) or shipping discounts (for shipping).
Not for POS or carts with nothing to ship. Pickup and local delivery discounts created in the app don't apply to Shopify POS orders, or to carts where no item needs shipping, such as a cart of digital products only.
FAQs
Why don't customers get the discount?
Check these, in order:
The method is turned on and the cart widget shows. See Let customers choose pickup, delivery or shipping in the cart.
The Discount code card shows the option you want, and you clicked Save.
With Create in Shopify: the code matches Shopify exactly, is active and hasn't ended, and the cart meets its conditions, such as eligible products or a minimum purchase.
With Create in Appstle Pickup: Appstle Pickup Discounts is active in Shopify → Discounts.
The customer finished their choices in the cart widget before checking out. For store pickup, that's a location and, if required, a date and time.
If you use Customer tag access, the customer is logged in and has an allowed tag.
Do customers have to enter the code?
No. With Create in Shopify, the app adds the code to the cart. With Create in Appstle Pickup, the discount applies automatically, without a code.
Why does checkout say the discount requires that delivery method?
That message comes from the Appstle Pickup & Delivery Discounts checkout rule. It shows when a customer chose pickup or local delivery in the cart, but at checkout some or all of the items use a different delivery method. The customer can choose the matching option for all items at checkout, or go back to the cart and choose again. It only happens with discounts created in the app.
Can I give a discount to pickup only?
Yes. Set up the Discount code card in Store pickup only. Leave the cards for local delivery and shipping on Create in Shopify, with Discount code empty.
How do I stop offering a discount?
Open the method's Discount code card, select Create in Shopify, clear Discount code and click Save. Customers who already have a Shopify code in their cart keep it, so also deactivate the code in Shopify → Discounts.
