Get started with Appstle Pickup & Delivery

Set up store pickup, local delivery and shipping, add your first location and rates, and place a test order.

Appstle Pickup & Delivery adds a widget to your store where customers choose store pickup, local delivery or shipping, and pick a date and time if you offer them. This guide takes you from install to your first test order. It follows the same order as the Setup guide on the app's Dashboard.

Before you start

  • Decide which services you offer: store pickup, local delivery, shipping, or a mix.

  • Have the address and phone number of each pickup or delivery location ready.

  • Decide what to charge for each service. Many stores offer pickup for free.

Step 1: Answer the welcome questions

The first time you open the app, a short welcome flow asks a few questions. You can change every answer later.

  1. Under Shipping, Local Delivery and Store Pickup, choose Yes for each service you offer and No for the rest.

  2. If you offer pickup or local delivery, leave Create default rates checked under Pickup and delivery fees. The app then creates a free pickup rate and a $5 local delivery rate for the services you chose. You can change them later on the Rates page.

  3. Click Continue setup.

  4. Choose Pick a theme to enable it on now and select your theme.

  5. Click Open theme editor, then click Save in the theme editor once the app embed appears.

  6. Back in the app, click Continue setup, then Complete setup.

To turn on the app embed later instead, choose I'll do this later in step 4.

You land on the Dashboard. If you click Skip setup and then Yes, exit, the app still saves the answers on screen. By default, that turns on all three services and creates the default rates. You can change both later.

Step 2: Work through the Setup guide

The Setup guide card on the Dashboard lists eight tasks. The first six are ticked automatically once done. Configure notifications and Place a test order are never ticked. Click a task to see what it covers and a button that opens the right page.

Configure store pickup, local delivery and shipping

These three tasks open Settings → Store pickup, Settings → Local delivery and Settings → Shipping. A task is ticked once that service is turned on.

  1. Click Open pickup settings, Open delivery settings or Open shipping settings.

  2. If the service is off, click Enable at the top of the page.

  3. Review the settings and click Save.

Settings on these pages apply to all your locations. They control things like when the service is offered based on cart value or weight, whether customers must pick a date, notes, order tags and discount codes.

Create a location

A location is a store, warehouse or pickup point. Customers collect orders from it, or you deliver from it.

  1. Go to Locations and click Create Location. To copy in stores you already have in Shopify, click Import POS Locations. To add many at once, click Import Locations (CSV).

  2. Enter the Location name, Company name, address and Phone number, then click Save.

  3. In the Store pickup and Local delivery cards, check that each service this location offers shows Enabled. If it shows Disabled, click Enable.

  4. Click Show settings to set the days, times, preparation time and blackout dates for that service, then click Save.

Configure rates

Rates are the fees customers see at checkout for pickup and delivery. The app shows customers only the rate for the method they chose in the widget. For example, a customer who chose store pickup sees only your pickup rate.

  1. Click Open rate settings, or go to Rates.

  2. Under Pickup Rates or Delivery Rates, click Add rate.

  3. Enter an Internal rate name that only you see, the Rate name customers see at checkout, and the Rate amount. Enter 0 for a free rate.

  4. Optional: change the Rate type to Order Amount or Weight Based, or limit the rate to certain Locations or customer tags.

  5. Click Save.

Update your theme

The app embed loads the app on your storefront and adds the widget next to the checkout button on the cart page. No storefront widget works while it's off.

  1. Click Update your theme.

  2. Select your theme and click Enable in theme. The theme editor opens with the app embed turned on.

  3. Click Save in the theme editor.

Configure notifications

The app can email customers and your team when an order's status changes, for example when a pickup order is ready to collect. Click Review notifications to open Settings → Email notifications, then check your sender details, logo and the templates you want to send.

Shopify's own notifications don't include pickup or delivery details by default. You can edit your Shopify order confirmation, shipping confirmation and new order emails to add them.

Place a test order

Warning: Before you check out, turn on test mode for your payment provider, or use Shopify’s Bogus Gateway, so you aren’t charged for the test order.

  1. Open your online store, add a product to your cart and go to the cart page.

  2. In the widget, choose pickup, delivery or shipping, and fill in what it asks for, such as the location, date and time.

  3. Go to checkout and complete the order. Check that the right rate appears.

  4. Back in the app, open the order from Orders to confirm the date, time and location came through.

  5. Click Complete setup in the Setup guide. This hides the guide.

Step 3: Check your storefront widgets

Below the Setup guide, the Dashboard shows which storefront widgets are turned on. Each card has a button that opens the place where you turn it on.

Here is what each widget does for your customers.

Widget

What it does

App embed

Loads the app on your live theme and adds the widget next to the checkout button. Every storefront widget needs it.

Optional. Places the widget, where customers choose pickup, delivery or shipping, at a spot you pick on the cart page. Without it, the app embed adds the widget next to the checkout button.

Delivery validator

Lets customers check whether you deliver to them, from any page.

Enable in theme

Order status widget

Shows the customer's pickup, delivery or shipping choice on the order status page.

Customize checkout

Thank you page widget

Shows the same details on the Thank you page.

Customize checkout

Once a widget is on, its button changes to Manage in theme, Preview in theme or Preview in checkout.

Things to know

  • Two kinds of settings. Settings → Store pickup, Local delivery and Shipping apply to every location. Pickup days, time slots, order limits, preparation time and blackout dates are set on each location.

  • Keep the app embed on. If you turn it off, the app's storefront widgets stop working.

  • Rates are sent to Shopify. The app adds your pickup and delivery rates to Shopify so they appear at checkout. If a rate shows Not synced to Shopify, click Sync Rates on the Rates page.

  • Hiding the Setup guide. Clicking X on the card or Complete setup hides the Setup guide. Every page it links to stays in the app menu.

FAQs

Why don't customers see the widget in the cart?

Check that App embed shows Enabled on the Dashboard. The app embed adds the widget next to the checkout button. If your theme hides it, or you want it elsewhere, add the Cart widget block with Enable in theme. If it still doesn't show, go to Settings → Troubleshoot. It lists the settings that hide the widget and how many shoppers each one affects.

Do I have to offer all three services?

No. Turn on only the services you offer. You can also turn pickup or delivery on or off for each location.

Can I change what I chose in the welcome questions?

Yes. Turn services on or off in Settings, and edit or delete the default rates on the Rates page.
