Change or translate the text in your pickup and delivery widgets

Reword the cart, product page, header and order status text of the Pickup & Delivery widgets, and translate it into each language your store offers.

You can reword most of the text in the Appstle Pickup & Delivery widgets: the option names in the cart, field labels, error messages, the delivery checker in your header, and the pickup and delivery details on your order status and thank you pages. Use it to match your brand's voice, rename an option, or show shoppers the widgets in their own language. You'll find it in Settings → Text and translations.

Before you start

  • The widgets have to be on your storefront first. See Get started with Appstle Pickup & Delivery.

  • To translate the text, add each language in your Shopify admin under Settings → Languages. The app lists the languages you add there.

Change the wording

Every field starts with the app's default wording, so you only change the ones you want.

  1. In the app, go to Settings → Text and translations.

  2. Find the card for the widget you want to change (see the table below) and click Show. The card opens with a field for each message.

  3. Change the wording in the field. For example, to rename the options in the cart, change Local delivery tab label from Local Delivery to Home delivery and Store pickup tab label from Store Pickup to Pick up in store.

  4. Click Save in the bar that appears at the top of the page.

  5. Reload your store's cart page to check the new wording.

Customers see the new names on the buttons in the cart widget.

A field can't be left blank. If you clear one and save, the widget shows the app's English wording for that message, whichever language you're editing.

What each card changes

The page has one card for each part of the widgets, in the order below.

Card

Text it changes

Pickup widget

Store pickup in the cart: the location, date, time and note labels, their error messages, the text message opt-in checkbox, the minimum and maximum order value and weight messages, and the message for items that can't be picked up.

Delivery widget

Local delivery in the cart: the postal code check and its messages, the date, time and note labels, their error messages, the minimum and maximum order value and weight messages, and the message for items that can't be delivered.

Shipping widget

Shipping in the cart: the date and note labels, their error messages, the prompts to click the checkout button, the minimum and maximum order value and weight messages, and the message for items that can't be shipped.

Calendar widget

The day names, short day names and month names in the date pickers, and the text for closed hours.

Cart widget

The three option buttons (shipping, local delivery and store pickup), the message shown when no option is chosen, and the store search, map and opening hours text.

Order status

The pickup, delivery and shipping details shown on the order status page and the thank you page.

Product widget

The delivery and pickup options on product pages: the postal code check, stock messages, the store list and the delivery dates.

Header widget

The delivery checker in your store's header: its button, the postal code field and the messages for areas you do and don't deliver to.

Some messages show only in certain cases. For example, the minimum and maximum order messages show only when you set those limits and a cart is outside them. The text message opt-in checkbox shows only when Postscript is connected and the Order ready for pickup or Order picked up text is on. See Set up SMS notifications for pickup and delivery orders.

Translate the widgets

Keep a separate set of text for each language your store offers. Shoppers see the widgets in the language they browse in.

The app comes with ready-made text in Arabic, Bengali, Chinese (Simplified and Traditional), Danish, Dutch, English, French, German, Greek, Hindi, Italian, Japanese, Lithuanian, Persian, Polish, Portuguese (Brazil and Portugal), Romanian, Spanish, Swedish and Urdu. Other languages start in English, ready for you to translate.

  1. In your Shopify admin, go to Settings → Languages, add the language and publish it.

  2. In the app, go to Settings → Text and translations. The page opens in your store's default language.

  3. Click the language button next to Widget text and labels (it shows the current language, for example English) and choose the language. The first time you open a language, the app sets it up with its ready-made text and shows that text to shoppers who browse in it.

  4. Open each card, check the wording, change what you need and click Save.

The language button, and the Reset, Export and Import buttons at the top of the page, show only when your store has more than one language.

Export and import a language

Use these to translate a whole language in one go, or to copy it to another store.

  • Export downloads the text of the selected language as a JSON file, for example pickup-labels-your-store.myshopify.com-de.json for German.

  • Import replaces all the text of the selected language with the text in a JSON file, and your storefront shows it straight away. You don't need to click Save. Any message the file leaves out goes back to the app's English wording, and the file goes into the language that's selected, whichever language it came from. Start from an exported file and change only the text between the quotes.

Reset a language

Click Reset to put every field of the selected language back to the app's ready-made wording for that language, or to English if the app has none for it. The app asks you to confirm first, because your own wording is overwritten and can't be recovered. To keep a copy of your wording, click Export before you reset.

Your storefront keeps showing the old wording until the next time you save a change on this page. To show the reset wording straight away, change any field and click Save, then change it back and click Save again.

Things to know

  • Keep the words in double curly brackets. Some messages contain a word like {{orderValue}}, {{postalCode}} or {{storeName}}. The widget replaces it with the real value, so "Minimum order value for pickup is {{orderValue}}" shows the limit you set. Keep each one exactly as it is, in every language. If you change or delete it, the value doesn't show.

  • Keep bold tags in pairs. The Ready for collection date label and Delivered today label fields contain <b> and </b> around a word to make it bold. Keep both tags or remove both.

  • Fields named "… aria label" never show on the page. Screen readers read them aloud to describe a button or field. Translate them like the rest, but you won't see them change on your storefront.

  • A few messages can't be changed here. The time zone line under the date picker (for example "Schedule time zone: America/New_York (your time zone).") and the note for a date with low stock ("Only 2 … left for …") always show in English. So do a few texts in the checkout widget: Use my location, Select this location, Enter your delivery address, Check and Choose a date and time.

  • Only the app's widgets change. This page doesn't change your theme's own text, Shopify's checkout wording, the names of your rates or your emails and text messages. Set rates in Set up pickup and delivery rates and notification wording in Set up email notifications for pickup and delivery orders.

  • Each language is separate. A change to the English text doesn't change the German text. Save or discard your changes before you switch language, reset, export or import.

  • Shoppers see a language only when it's published. A language you added but didn't publish in Shopify doesn't show to shoppers yet.

FAQs

Why don't I see the language button or Reset, Export and Import?

They show only when your store has more than one language. Add a language in Shopify Settings → Languages, then reload the page.

Why do the widgets show my default language to shoppers who browse in another language?

The app sets up a language the first time you open it on this page. Go to Settings → Text and translations, choose the language with the language button, then reload your storefront in that language. If the widgets still show your default language, check that the language is published in Shopify Settings → Languages.

Why does my storefront still show the old wording?

Check these in order:

  • You clicked Save after you changed the field.

  • You changed the language your shoppers browse in. Each language has its own text.

  • You changed the right card. The table above shows which card holds which text.

  • If you reset the language, the reset shows on your storefront only after your next save on this page.

  • You reloaded the page. If it still shows the old text, try a private window.

Why did Import fail?

The app shows an error if the file is empty, isn't a valid labels file, or the language isn't on in Shopify. Export the language first and edit that file, so the format stays the same. If you see a message to enable the language, add it in Shopify Settings → Languages and try again.

Can I change the text in the checkout?

You can change the app's own text there. On Shopify Plus stores, the app's checkout widget uses the text from the Pickup widget, Delivery widget, Shipping widget and Cart widget cards, and the order status and thank you pages use the Order status card. A few checkout widget texts, such as Use my location, always show in English. Shopify's own checkout wording and the names of your rates aren't changed here.
