Zapier connects Appstle Memberships to the other apps you use, such as Google Sheets or Slack. When something happens to a membership, a Zap (an automation you build in Zapier) starts and passes the membership’s details to another app. For example, you can add a row to a Google Sheet every time someone becomes a member.
Appstle Memberships works only as a trigger: a membership event starts a Zap. A Zap can’t change a membership in Appstle Memberships.
Before you start
A Zapier account. If you don’t have one, sign up on Zapier.
An Appstle Memberships API key. Step 9 shows you how to create one. For plans and key details, see Create and manage API keys for Appstle Memberships.
At least one membership in your store. Zapier uses an existing membership as sample data when you test the trigger (Step 11). If you have none yet, place a test order for one of your membership plans.
Connect Zapier to Appstle Memberships
Steps 1 and 2 happen in Appstle Memberships. Steps 3 to 21 happen in Zapier and use Google Sheets as the example. You can also watch a video tutorial on setting up Zapier with Appstle Memberships.
In your Shopify admin, open Apps → Appstle℠ Memberships. Click More, then under App Integrations & Exports click App Integrations. On the Zapier card, click Integrate.
On the Integrate with Zapier page, click Enable Zapier. Zapier opens in a new tab.
3. In the Zapier tab that opens, click the Accept Invite & Build a Zap button.
4. Now, click on 'Create Zap'.
5. You will now be redirected to the search app window. Search for 'Appstle Memberships' in the search bar, and select Appstle Memberships from the drop down.
6. After selecting 'Appstle Memberships', you have to select an event for which you are creating a Zap (Zapier rule automation!). You will see multiple trigger events options for 'Appstle Memberships'. Select the desired event, and click on continue.
7. After clicking on 'Continue', a sign-in to your 'Appstle Memberships' will be required.
8. After clicking on 'Sign-in to Appstle Memberships, it will redirect you to this window.
9. Zapier now asks for your Appstle Memberships API key. To create one, open Appstle Memberships in another tab, click More, then under General Settings click API Access. Click Create API key, name the key Zapier and keep Read & Write selected, as in the screenshot below. Then click Create.
Copy the key right away, because it’s shown only once, and paste it into the API Key field in Zapier. Don’t use a Read only key: Zapier connects with it, but your Zap can’t be turned on. For more about keys, see Create and manage API keys for Appstle Memberships.
10. After inserting the API key, click on the 'Continue' button on the Zapier tab. You will then see a test trigger option.
11. After clicking on 'Test Trigger', you will be able to see all the data that you can fetch from Appstle Memberships to save in another app.
12. After clicking on the 'Continue' button, Zapier will ask you which other app you want to link your Appstle Memberships with for sharing the data. Let's suppose you want to save your data in google sheets.
After selecting 'Google Sheets', you have to set the rule or trigger. As in, what action should automatically be done in Google Sheets, when a certain event happens in Appstle Memberships.
Please note that the next few steps are specific to the Google Sheets data transfer use case that we have picked up as an example.
13. For now, let's suppose we want to add a new row in the Google sheet whenever you get a new membership order. Click on the 'Create Spreadsheet Row', and then click on the 'Continue' button. Zapier will ask you to sign in to your 'Google Sheets' account. Select the account, and click on 'Continue' as you see below.
14. You have to now create a google sheet under the same account that you've given in the above step. Add column names with the headers that you want to fetch from the 'Appstle Memberships'. Please see the below screenshot for guidance.
15. Now come to Zapier and select the newly created google sheet.
16. After selecting the worksheet, you'll be able to see all the headers that you have created in the google sheet.
17. Assign the specific values to the headers, then click on the 'Continue' button.
18. After clicking on the 'Continue' button, you will see the 'Test and Continue' button at the end.
19. Now check your google sheet. The sheet will have been update automatically!
20. Click on the "Turn On My Zap", and you'll be all set to see all your upcoming membership-created information in your google sheets.
21. Similarly, you can create different zaps (rules) for your different Appstle Membership events.
What the Integrate with Zapier page shows
When you turn on a Zap, Zapier saves a link for that Zap’s event on the Integrate with Zapier page, and Appstle Memberships sends the event to that link. The page has one read-only field for each event. A field stays empty until you turn on a Zap for that event. These are the fields:
Customer Membership Updated Url
Recurring Order Placed Url
Membership Activated Url
Membership Cancelled Url
Membership Created Url
Membership Paused Url
Membership Updated Url
Membership Expired Url
Next Order Updated Webhook URL
Order Frequency Updated Webhook URL
Subscription Transaction Successed Webhook URL
Subscription Transaction Failed Webhook URL
Things to know
Each event keeps one link. If you turn on a second Zap for the same event, its link replaces the first one, and only the Zap you turned on last receives events. To send one event to several apps, add more steps to a single Zap.
When you turn a Zap off in Zapier, the link for its event is removed from this page, even if another Zap’s link had replaced it. To restore the link, turn the Zap you still use off and on again.
The two Subscription Transaction fields don’t receive events yet: you can turn on a Zap for them, but it never runs. Successful and failed renewal payments go to the Next Order Updated Webhook URL link instead, so a Zap on that event also runs after every renewal payment.
The Zapier card on App Integrations shows an Enabled badge, and the button on this page changes to Disable Zapier, once a Zap is on for one of the first seven events in the list. Disable Zapier clears only those seven links. To stop a Zap for any other event, turn the Zap off in Zapier.
FAQs
Zapier says Appstle Memberships is invite only. What do I do?
Open the Integrate with Zapier page, click Enable Zapier, then click Accept Invite & Build a Zap in the Zapier tab that opens (Step 3). Use the Zapier account you build Zaps in. Each teammate who builds Zaps with Appstle Memberships needs to accept the invite with their own Zapier account.
The fields on the Integrate with Zapier page are read-only. How do I add my own link?
You can’t. Zapier fills in the fields when you turn on a Zap. To send membership events to your own web address, use webhooks instead. See Send membership events to your own systems with webhooks.
Where do I find the API key Zapier asks for?
Create it on the API Access page in Appstle Memberships. Step 9 shows you how, and Create and manage API keys for Appstle Memberships explains the details.
Zapier says it found no sample data. Why?
Zapier’s test uses your existing memberships, so it needs at least one. Place a test order for one of your membership plans, then test the trigger again.
My Zap stopped receiving events. What should I check?
Open the Integrate with Zapier page and look at the field for that event. If it’s empty, the link was removed, either by Disable Zapier or by turning off another Zap on the same event. Turn your Zap off and on again in Zapier to save a new link. If it has a link but your Zap isn’t running, another Zap on the same event may have replaced yours (see Things to know). If events still don’t arrive, contact us with the event and the time it should have run.
