A Dynamic pricing bundle lets shoppers build their own box from the products or collections you choose. They fill it on a page of its own, and the box gets the discount you set: a percentage off, an amount off, or tiers that save more as the box grows. Use it for build-your-own boxes, mix-and-match sets and "buy more, save more" offers.
Shoppers choose what goes in the box, so the price depends on what they pick. To sell a box at one price you set, use a Fixed pricing bundle. To have shoppers fill the box one section at a time, use a Sectioned bundle. To offer a set of products at a discount on a product page, use a Combo bundle.
Before you start
Make sure the products you want to use are active. Draft products don't show on your store.
Make sure the Appstle Bundles app embed is on in your live theme. Step 4 of the editor checks it for you.
Each live or scheduled Dynamic pricing bundle uses one of the 25 automatic discounts Shopify allows. Free shipping on the box uses another. Step 5 shows how many your store uses.
Create a Dynamic pricing bundle
In your Shopify admin, open the Appstle Bundles app and go to Bundles & Discounts.
Select Create offer.
Under Build their own box, select Dynamic pricing bundle.
Select Start with Dynamic pricing bundle.
The editor has five steps on the left, a preview in the middle and the settings for the current step on the right. Select Try it above the preview to fill the box as a shopper would. To change one part of the offer, select that part in the preview.
Step 1: What goes in the box
Under Shoppers fill the box from, choose Pick products or Use a collection. If you switch, the other list is kept until you save, in case you switch back.
With Pick products, select Add products or Add from a collection and choose the products. A box can hold up to 5,000 products and variants. Drag a row by its handle to change the order.
With Use a collection, select Add collections. Shoppers choose from every product in these collections, and products you add to them later join the box by themselves. You can use up to 20 collections.
Under Box size, set the limits shoppers must stay within to add the box to the cart: Items and Box value, each with At least and Up to. Leave a field empty for no limit.
Click ... on a product row to set rules for that product:
How many per box: set At least and Up to, from 1 to 999. The product enters the box at the minimum and stops at the maximum. At checkout, a quantity outside these limits gets no discount.
Must be in the box: shoppers can't check out without it. It also starts in the box.
Starts in the box: it's already in the box when shoppers open the page, and they can take it out.
More options in this step:
Refresh product details loads the latest names, images, prices and stock from Shopify.
How variants show: Each variant on its own (the default) makes every variant its own card. One product with a variant menu shows one card with a menu.
Load products in batches, under Large catalogs with Pick products, shows a first batch, then loads more as shoppers scroll. Use it above a few hundred products. Products per batch starts at 50.
Build it in steps shows on a new offer. Start a Sectioned bundle discards this draft and starts a Sectioned bundle with your products in its first section. Must be in the box and Starts in the box carry over; How many per box limits don't.
Step 2: Box discount
A new offer starts with 5%, 10% and 15% off at 2, 3 and 4 items. To start from another setup, choose 10%, 15%, 20% off or 10% off the box under Start from a popular setup. Under Shoppers get, choose one of these:
Choice | What shoppers get |
% off the box | Every item in the box gets the percentage off. Enter more than 0 and up to 100 under Discount. |
Amount off the box | The amount comes off the box total once. With a prepaid subscription that ships several times, it comes off once per delivery. |
A discount that grows | Tiers: the more shoppers add, the more they save. |
No discount | Shoppers pay full price. Appstle still creates a Shopify automatic discount for the offer, and it counts toward your store's limit of 25. |
With A discount that grows, set the tiers:
Under Discount grows with, choose Number of items or Box value. Box value counts the box's worth before the discount, in whole amounts.
Under Each tier takes, choose % off or Amount off.
Enter what the box needs (Box has or Box worth) and the Discount for each tier. Select Add a tier for more. You need at least one tier.
Click ... on a tier for more options:
Tier settings: under This tier counts and This tier gives, one tier can count items while another counts box value, or give % off while another gives an amount off.
Only for customers with this tag…: limits the tier to logged-in customers with that tag. Enter one Customer tag per tier.
At this tier, shoppers buy, in Tier settings: choose One-time purchase only, or One subscription plan only with a Selling plan for this tier. It lasts up to the next tier, and needs that plan on every product. It shows on tiers that count items, with One plan for the whole box and subscriptions in Purchase type.
At checkout, the box gets the tier that saves the most.
Free shipping is below the discount: No free shipping (the default), Free shipping for this box only (when the cart holds only boxes from this offer) or Free shipping on the whole order (when the cart has this box). Either one needs the box to meet its limits, have its required items and match the Purchase type.
Purchase options. This group sets how the box works with subscriptions, and needs Appstle Subscriptions. Until you connect it, the group shows Connect Appstle Subscriptions. The rows after Purchase type show unless it's set to One-time purchases only:
Setting | What it does |
Purchase type | One-time and subscriptions gives the discount either way. With One-time purchases only, subscribers pay full price. Subscriptions only gives it only on subscription items. With One-time and subscriptions, a note shows which one shoppers start with; select Change to edit that store setting. |
How shoppers pick a plan | One plan for the whole box asks shoppers for one plan for every item. Use it only when all products share the same plans, or the box can't be bought as a subscription. A plan on each product gives each product its own one-time or subscription choice. |
Discount on renewals | Under More options. Choose Every order, or choose The first orders and enter the Number of orders, counted from each subscription's first order. At checkout, renewal prices can show without the discount; this setting decides which orders get it. |
Selling plans shoppers can pick | Under More options. All plans, Only these plans or All except these plans. |
Step 3: Look and texts
This step sets how the box page looks and the words shoppers read.
Look: start from a look, such as Brand style, Clean, Bold, Soft, Luxe or Playful. A look copies its colors into this offer, and you can change any color after.
Title shoppers see is required and shows above the box. Subtitle and Description show under it. To show the box limits, type them in the description, like Pick {{minimum_product_count}} to {{maximum_product_count}} items. {{minimum_order_amount}} and {{maximum_order_amount}} work too. Use each one once.
Name at checkout is optional and shows next to the discount in the cart and at checkout. If it's empty, the title is used. It isn't translated. Name in your admin is only for you and your team.
Layout: Classic or Modern. Select Classic preview or Modern preview to see each one. Shoppers see the layout on the box page and on product pages. New offers start with Classic.
Box page: select Edit next to Product filters to add a filter bar on top, with vendor, product type, tags, sorting, title or variants.
Box page → More options: Product order is As you added them, A to Z or Z to A. Checkout section puts the checkout block Above the products or Below the products (Classic only). Custom HTML adds your own HTML next to parts of the page.
To fine-tune every part, select Fine-tune every part on the Design tab. It has parts for the layout, the page, product cards, the discount progress, the box summary, the buttons, the sign-in message and your own CSS.
With the Classic layout, Show the discount progress bar is off by default; the Modern layout always shows its progress. Under Store texts you can change the words on buttons and messages, such as Add to box button, Checkout button and Reward by items, Classic theme.
Step 4: Where, who and when
Choose where the box shows, who gets it and when it runs.
Where it shows: the box has a page of its own. Under Bundle page, select Copy to copy its link or Open to see it. The link opens only while the offer is live.
Also show it on product pages (on by default) shows the box on the product pages of its products too, where the Appstle Dynamic Bundle block is on the product template. If Blocks says No block yet, select Add it for me, then select Save in the theme editor. Products that share a template need the block only once.
Show a Bundle & Save box adds a small box with a button to other product pages, under Add to cart. The button opens the box page. Set its Box title, Button text, and optionally Box text and an Image. To move it, select Place offer block under Custom placement.
Show the box on: All products in this bundle, Specific products or Specific collections. It never shows where the full box already does, so while Also show it on product pages is on, choose products or collections outside the box. Add the viewed product to the bundle picks that product for the shopper if it's in the box.
Announcement bar: turn on Show this offer in the announcement bar to show shoppers how close they are to the offer and when they've unlocked it. You can change the four messages.
After shoppers add it: under Where shoppers go after adding, choose The cart page, The cart drawer, Checkout, A page you choose or Stay on the page (the default). Under When the box is added, choose Empty the cart first or Keep what's in the cart.
After shoppers add it → More options: Don't fill the box from the cart makes the box start empty, instead of with the items already in the shopper's cart.
Who gets it: choose Everyone or Customers with tags, then fill in Only customers with one of these tags, Not for customers with any of these tags, or both. Tags must match exactly, including capital letters. They work only for logged-in customers, so guests see a message asking them to log in.
Who gets it → More options: Not for B2B buyers hides the offer from shoppers buying for a B2B company.
When: choose When I launch (called Right away on a saved offer) or On a schedule, then set Starts and, if you like, Ends. Times are in your store's time zone. Before it starts, a scheduled offer already counts toward Shopify's limit of 25. After it ends, it shows as Ended until you turn it off.
Limits: Uses per customer takes a whole number from 1 to 999. Uses are counted only for logged-in customers, so while a limit is set, guests see a message asking them to log in, and customers who reach the limit can't add the box again.
Works together with: Other product discounts, Order discounts and Shipping discounts. When a shopper qualifies for this offer and another discount, Shopify applies both only if both allow it. Otherwise it applies the one that saves the shopper more. While the offer gives free shipping, Shipping discounts stays on.
Order tags: Tags to add are added in the background to each order the app records for this offer. Select Add a variable to include the offer's code, title or type. Shopify discount tags are added to the Shopify discount this offer creates, so you can find it in Shopify.
Step 5: Review and launch
The last step lists checks for your offer. If a check needs your attention, the step tells you what to fix. For example, it warns when the items marked Must be in the box outnumber the box maximum, or when a tier needs more items than the box holds. When you edit a saved offer, this step is called Checks.
It also shows how many of Shopify's 25 automatic discounts your store uses. If your store already has 25, turn one off in Shopify or select Save as draft. At a glance sums up the offer, part by part.
When everything looks right, select Launch offer. The offer goes live on your store in a few seconds. To save your work without launching, select Save as draft.
What shoppers see
Shoppers open the box page and select Add to bundle on the products they want. Sold-out products show Out Of Stock. The box starts with matching items already in their cart, unless you turned on Don't fill the box from the cart.
In the Classic layout, the products show first, then the shopper's bundle with the total, the tier messages and the Checkout button. Set Checkout section to Above the products to show the bundle first. The Modern layout shows a bundle details panel with progress steps above the products.
If the box can be bought as a subscription with One plan for the whole box, shoppers choose one-time or a plan under Purchase Options, above Checkout. If the box is outside your limits, a message tells them what to change, and the box can't be added until it fits.
Checkout adds the box to the cart, then takes shoppers where Where shoppers go after adding says. With Stay on the page, the default, they see a message that the bundle was added. In the cart and at checkout, the discount shows under your Name at checkout.
Things to know
The discount is applied at checkout by a Shopify discount. A discount that grows counts the box's items or value in the cart, not your Box size limits. If a shopper edits the cart after adding the box, the cart gets the tier it reaches then.
At checkout, a product outside its How many per box limits gets no discount, and a box missing a Must be in the box product gets none, whatever the discount. With % off or amount off, a box outside its Box size limits gets none either.
Two boxes of the same offer in one cart count together, as one box.
If a product is in more than one live Dynamic pricing bundle with Also show it on product pages on, its product page shows each of them.
Thresholds and amounts in the offer are converted to the shopper's currency in each market.
FAQs
Why can't I open the box page?
Until the offer is live, the link shows a page not found. Launch the offer, then select Open in Step 4. If your store is password protected, shoppers need the password too.
Why doesn't the box show on my product page?
Check these:
The offer is live and its schedule has started.
Also show it on product pages is on in Step 4.
The Appstle Dynamic Bundle block is on the product template. In Step 4, select Add it for me if Blocks says No block yet.
The Appstle Bundles app embed is on in your live theme.
Why doesn't the Bundle & Save box show?
It never shows on a product page that already shows this box. While Also show it on product pages is on, that's every product in the box, even one whose template has no block. Under Show the box on, choose Specific products or Specific collections outside the box, or turn off Also show it on product pages. A product page shows one Bundle & Save box at most.
Why do shoppers see a message asking them to log in?
The offer uses customer tags or Uses per customer, which work only for logged-in customers. Guests see the box but can't add it until they log in. Logged-in customers without a matching tag see that they aren't eligible. To test it, log in as a customer who has a matching tag.
Why didn't a cart get the discount?
Check these:
The box has its Must be in the box products, each product is within its How many per box limits and, with % off or amount off, the box is within its Box size limits.
With a discount that grows, the box reaches a tier. Tiers count the box's items or value in the cart.
The shopper can get it: customer tags, Uses per customer and the schedule.
The items match your Purchase type.
The cart has another discount, and Works together with doesn't allow that kind.
Why does launching say my store has reached its limit?
Shopify allows up to 25 active or scheduled automatic discounts, including app discounts. Turn off discounts you no longer need in Shopify, then launch again, or select Save as draft for now.
Can shoppers build the box from a collection?
Yes. Choose Use a collection in Step 1. Products you add to those collections later join the box by themselves.
Does a Dynamic pricing bundle work with subscriptions?
Yes. Use Purchase options in Step 2. It needs Appstle Subscriptions. With One plan for the whole box, every product in the box needs that plan.
How is this different from a Fixed pricing bundle?
In a Dynamic pricing bundle, the discount follows the box: it can grow as shoppers add. In a Fixed pricing bundle, shoppers pay one price you set for the box.
