A reward is something customers get in exchange for their points, such as an amount off their order, free shipping or store credit. You manage your rewards in the app under Ways to redeem.
You choose which rewards to offer and how many points each one costs. Customers collect points through the ways to earn you set up. See What are ways to earn?
Customers see your rewards in the loyalty popup, in the order you set. If you've added the loyalty page or the checkout block to your store, rewards show there too.
When a customer redeems a reward, they get a discount code for it. Store credit goes to their Shopify account instead.
The Ways to redeem page
In the Appstle Loyalty app, click Ways to redeem to manage your rewards. The page has three cards:
Card | What it does |
What customers see | Shows the loyalty popup with your rewards. Click Customize to open the Points program editor and see each change before you save. |
Your rewards | Lists your rewards with a short summary of each, for example 500 points for $5 off. Here you pause, reorder, edit and add them. |
Rules for every reward | Shows Reward codes expire, Expired codes and Store credit expires. These apply to all your rewards, though a reward can set its own code expiry. Click Change in the editor to change them. See Set up reward code expiration. |
At the top right, Export emails you a file of the points customers spent on every reward, and View tutorials opens help articles.
Export works for the store owner, staff with full access and staff allowed in More → Advanced Settings. The file goes to an email address listed there.
To see totals for each reward, click the columns button next to Add a reward (Edit columns), select Redeemed and Points spent, then click Done.
Add a reward
In the Appstle Loyalty app, click Ways to redeem, then click Add a reward. The Points program editor opens on the gallery.
Search for a reward, or pick a category on the left.
Click the reward you want, then click Add reward. The editor opens its settings.
Set it up, then click Save at the top right of the editor.
To read about a reward first, select it and click the Learn more about link at the bottom of the gallery.
Rewards you can offer
The gallery lists 7 rewards:
Reward | What customers get |
Amount off order | A fixed amount or a percentage off the whole order. |
Free shipping | Free shipping on the next order. You set the highest shipping rate it covers, and rates above it stay full price. |
Free product | A product you choose, free. Needs a plan that includes free product rewards. |
Amount off products | A discount on products you choose. |
Amount off a collection | A discount on items from collections you choose. |
Store credit | Credit added to the customer's Shopify account. Needs a plan that includes store credit. |
Customers choose points | Customers pick how many points to use for a matching discount, for example every 100 points take $1 off. |
Manage a reward
In Your rewards, use the switch to pause a reward or turn it back on, and drag a row to change the order customers see. Both save right away.
A paused reward is hidden from customers, but codes they already have keep working. A POS only badge beside the switch means the reward doesn't show on your online store.
Hover over a row to show its buttons, then hover over a button to see its name. On a narrow screen, the buttons always show under the row.
Edit opens the reward in the editor. Clicking its name does the same.
Duplicate adds a paused copy named Copy of and the original name, so you can change it before customers see it.
View redemptions lists the times customers spent points on it.
View discount codes lists the codes customers got from it. Store credit rewards don't have this button.
Delete removes it once you confirm, and customers' unused codes may stop working. If an active reward has unused codes, the dialog offers Pause instead to keep them working.
Things to know
Turn on the Appstle Loyalty app embed in your theme. While it's off, the loyalty popup doesn't show on your store. See Set up your loyalty program.
Changes in the editor reach your store when you click Save. If the update to your storefront doesn't finish, the page shows a message with a Retry button.
If you limit a reward to customer tags, only signed-in customers with one of those tags see it. Customers you exclude in Who can redeem don't see it either.
Every reward except store credit has a Combinations group in the editor. It sets which other discounts customers can use in the same order as the reward's code.
Before customers can redeem, in the editor's Settings, sets minimums: a number of orders, an amount spent or a points balance.
Redemption limits caps the points customers can spend a day and at a time. A customer who misses a minimum, or whose redemption would go over a limit, gets a message instead.
To let customers return an unused code for its points, turn it on in Settings → Returning rewards. See Let customers return unused rewards for their points.
Free product and store credit rewards need a plan that includes them. Without it, you can't turn a paused one back on.
Rewards on POS, reward code and store credit expiry, and limiting who can redeem by tag or customer also need a higher plan.
Duplicate shows Needs a higher plan for a reward that uses a feature your plan doesn't include.
If a reward shows Reward as its type above its name in the editor, it's an older type that isn't in the gallery anymore. It stays in your list.
Troubleshooting
The popup doesn't show at all: turn on the Appstle Loyalty app embed in your theme.
A reward doesn't show in the popup: check that you saved it, its switch is on and it has no POS only badge. If it's limited to tags, test as a signed-in customer with one of them.
A customer can't redeem: check their points, the reward's Who can redeem, and Before customers can redeem, Redemption limits and During a sale in Settings.
A code doesn't work at checkout: check the reward's Applies to (minimum order, and Purchase type for subscriptions), Reward code (start and expiry) and Combinations.
A warning banner names a reward: Shopify didn't accept its discount, or the discount was deleted in Shopify. Click Open in the editor to check it, or chat with us.
