A Display-only card shows customers a way to earn that you reward yourself, such as sending you feedback by phone or email.
The card has no button and gives no points on its own. When a customer does what it describes, you add the points in the app or with Shopify Flow.
It shows with your other ways to earn, and you manage it on the Ways to earn page. See What are ways to earn?
Add a Display-only card
In the Appstle Loyalty app, click Ways to earn, then click Add a way to earn. The Points program editor opens on the gallery.
Click Display only, then click Display-only card.
Click Add way to earn. The editor opens its settings.
Go through the two steps below, then click Save at the top right of the editor.
You can add as many Display-only cards as you like.
The two steps
The panel on the right shows each step with a summary of its setting. Click a step to change it.
Step | What you set |
Who sees it | Set Only customers with these tags and Not customers with these tags. Leave them empty to show the card to everyone. |
What customers see | Set the Name and Description customers read, and an Icon. |
Use the Active switch at the top of the panel to turn the card on or off. While it's off, the switch reads Paused and customers don't see the card.
Who sees it
With both tag fields empty, every visitor sees the card, signed in or not.
With Only customers with these tags set, only signed-in customers who have at least one of those tags see it.
With Not customers with these tags set, customers who have any of those tags don't see it.
Tags match without regard to case, so "VIP" and "vip" are the same tag.
With Require Customers to Opt In to the Loyalty Program on in More → Advanced Settings, signed-in customers see it only after they join.
Customers hidden by Who sees loyalty in Design → Customize → Visibility don't see the card either. See Choose who sees loyalty and where it shows.
What customers see
Customers find the card in the loyalty popup when they click Ways to earn, and on your loyalty page. It shows its icon, name and description, with no button or points amount.
The Name is the title in the popup and on the loyalty page. The Description sits under it.
Format the description with HTML tags:
<b>bold,<i>italic,<u>underline,<ul>and<li>for a list, and<br>for a new line. The card has no button, so to send customers to a page, add a link such as
<a href="https://…">Contact us</a>.The loyalty page in customer accounts shows the description as plain text, without links or formatting.
The Icon is a built-in icon, or an image you upload. It shows at 32 px in the popup and 48 px on the Modern loyalty page, so square images look best.
To translate the name and description, change the language in the editor's toolbar.
Give the points yourself
The card never gives points, so add them in one of these ways:
In the app: click Customers and open the customer. Click Manage customer → Give Points/Credits, enter the Points and a Reason, then click Save.
With Shopify Flow: use the Add Points action. See Points using Shopify Flow.
In that action, Rule Id is optional. Enter the card's Rule ID, shown at the top of its panel once you save it, to record the points against the card.
Things to know
Turn on the Appstle Loyalty app embed in your theme. While it's off, the loyalty popup doesn't show. See Set up your loyalty program.
Changes in the editor reach your store when you click Save. If the update to your storefront doesn't finish, the page shows a message with a Retry button.
If a Shopify Flow workflow uses the card's Rule ID, keep the card on. While it's paused, or after you delete it, that workflow can't add points.
On the Ways to earn page, drag the card to change where it sits among your other ways to earn.
Troubleshooting
The card doesn't show: check that the app embed and the card's Active switch are on, and that Show loyalty on your store is on in Design.
Some customers don't see it: check the card's tags, opt-in and Who sees loyalty in Design. Each is explained under Who sees it.
A customer did what the card says and got no points: the card never gives points. Add them from Manage customer or with Shopify Flow.
You want a button on the card: Display-only cards can't have one. Add a link to the description instead.
A link in the description doesn't work: check that it's written as
<a href="https://…">Your text</a>. Links don't work on the loyalty page in customer accounts.A Flow run fails with "Point Earn Rule is not active": turn the card's Active switch on and click Save.
A Flow run fails with "Point Earn Rule not found": the card was deleted or the Rule Id is wrong. Copy the Rule ID from the card's panel.
